General Description
St John’s is an Anglican church in the evangelical tradition, situated in the suburban town of Yeadon, on the outskirts of both Leeds and Bradford. With 100 adults and 20 children, we are seeking to appoint someone to help us draw more families into the life of the church and to work with the existing team of volunteers in leading children, young people and their parents to faith in Christ and ongoing Christian discipleship.
Role Summary
This position has two main aspects:
• Supporting and strengthening the current work with children and youth during Sunday
worship and midweek groups, working alongside an existing team of supportive volunteers.
• Initiating and leading after-school clubs and midweek church-based clubs for children and
youth on the fringes of church life and raising up a team of volunteers to assist with the work.
Requirements
Given the nature of the work, it is an occupational requirement that the post holder should be a committed Christian, who can fully support the vision and ethos of St John’s church. The successful candidate will have significant experience and, possibly, a qualification in church based work with children, young people and their parents. The role will require evening and weekend work and general involvement in the ongoing life of the church.
Key Details
This role is full-time, 35 hours a week, but candidates looking for a part-time position may also be considered. The salary is in the range of £20,020 – 23,660, depending on experience, with a 5% pension contribution. (Part-time salary will be calculated pro rata.) The contract is for two years, with the possibility of extending for longer, and is subject to a probationary period and annual appraisals.
