An important step

Thank you for thinking about the possibility of your marriage, and particularly having the ceremony at St. John's Church. This is a special time for you, and we want to assure you of our concern for your future happiness as you make this step of commitment to each other.

This information has been produced to help you complete all the necessary arrangements. Anyone who lives in the parish of Yeadon or is on the church's Electoral Roll may be married here. Additionally, anyone with previous links with St. John's or a close family connection with the parish may also be able to be married in the church. For a full list of the legal regulations about getting married in a Church of England church, please see the website below. We very much hope we will have the opportunity of sharing this day with you.

What to do first

It is a very common situation to find that the location for the reception is much harder to book than the church, so you may wish to provisionally book that before making contact with us. Then you should contact the Vicar. You will find the telephone number and address details by clicking the 'Contact Us' tab at the top of the page. You will be able to arrange an appointment to discuss your plans and commence arrangements.

Banns

The legal requirements for having a wedding service in church is normally the publication of your 'Banns'. To find out more about banns and their part in the preparations for your marriage or to arrange to have your banns read at St John's Church please click on the button below to go to the banns page.

The Service

Generally the Church of England, of which St. John's is a part, uses a marriage service from 'Common Worship' and more details can be found by following the link below. The Vicar will be able to help you with selecting hymns if you are unsure.

It is suggested that you hold a rehearsal for the wedding and again the Vicar will advise you on this at your meeting with him. He will also be able to confirm any other costs that are applicable, such as Organist Fees, Certificates and the cost of the Church Service itself.

'Bits and Bobs'

You will probably want a photographic record of your day and possibly a video

recording too. We are happy to advise on the best ways of doing this in our

building. Please note that if you employ a professional video company then

they will need to ensure that all the legal requirements regarding video and

music copyright are respected.

In preparation for your wedding, your photographer is welcome to visit the

church beforehand. There are also some pictures of the church in the Buildings

area of the website.

Flowers are also an important part of any wedding ceremony and you may like to

know that we are able to provide assistance with flowers at a fraction of the cost

of professional florists.

And Finally...

You may still have many questions about whether you want to get married in a church or specifically at St John's.  To help you we have put together a guide which may answer some of your questions.  Please click on the button to go to the guide.
